Pinewood Derby Car Body – Speed Swoop is great choice outside of the simple pinewood derby designs.  We produced this design from a DIY pinewood derby book.  2019 will be the last year that we carry it, so get it while it lasts.  It’s a great looking car, very aggressive COG.  I think its complexity is why most people shy away from it.  You need to have a band / scroll saw to complete this design.  However, our’s is made from 100% cnc router cutting.

Pinewood Derby Car Body – Speed Swoop is the a harder build than most.  Lightweight, thin body requires multiple cuts on a a scroll saw with a triangle weight pocket to finish out the design.   Wood weight is about 15 grams or so depending on the wood grain.

This pinewood derby design is made out of an official kiln dried pine block wood with precision CNC cut slots or drilled axle holes.  We then CNC cut the stylish profile based on selected wheelbase.

Two weight pockets on the bottom of the car can be filled with weight of choice.

Pinewood Derby Car Body – Speed Swoop

Pinewood Derby Car Body – Speed Swoop is great choice for those builders looking past the simple wedge designs.  Speed Swoop is designed by multiple cuts on a scroll saw.  This pinewood car comes around 15 grams of wood weight.  Speed Swoop comes in aggressive COG 1/2 -3/4″ in front of rear axles.  As such, the Techs highly recommended that the Pinewood Derby Car Body – Speed Swoop paired with the Rail Riding technique. 

 

How to tune a Pinewood Derby Car Animation

 

The major steps are done for you.

Racers will need around 100 grams of  weight to bring the Pinewood Derby Car Body – Speed Swoop to racing limits, a little more if you use weight reduced wheels.  Pinewood Derby Car Body – Speed Swoop uses  2x deep pockets underneath the body.  Various types of weights can be applied such as tungsten or lead.  This body does not come with wheels or axles.

Builders will handle Pinewood Derby Car Body – Speed Swoop with care.  NO HAMMERING ever.  Because of this a #44 drill bit provided with each body to ensure easy proper axle install.

How to Install Wheels and Axles

 

All derby cars are made from official BSA blocks.   Pinewood Derby Car Body – Speed Swoop is always compliant with national rules when slot wheelbase is chosen.

The rules of local events sometimes differ from those of BSA box rules. Due to this,  it is necessary to know your rules before choosing our unique modifications for your PWD car.
