Pinewood Derby Car Body Physics Lecture. Many, many races have been won with this design. This design is the favorites of one of the Pinewood Derby “Gods” Lots of information regarding this design if you look for it. This is a rough cut, unweighted body. We have done the major steps for you! You will still need about 100 grams of weight to bring the car to proper weight. We add molten lead to our weight holes. However this body style has a few options for you to use cylinders or cubes to bring to weight.
“Physics Lecture” is car design that has tons of info on it. College and cub scout lecture series is designed around the principles of why this design is better than a wedge or wing type design. We took their word for it. We mass produce it over the years and all we can say is winner winner chicken dinner.
My go to setup answer what is the fastest car is this design:
- Physics car / slim wedge body 3-wheel racer at a 0.930″ COG
- Lead Weight
- 3k bent axles (3x 2.5, 1x 1.5) adjusted with pliers
- Wheel Polish kit or service
- Derby Dust graphite
- Lightest possible wheels that your PACK rules allow
Options for this Car include:
- Wheelbase of choice: BSA Slots, Drilled BSA Distance, Extended Wheelbase
- 3 or 4 wheel riding car
- Unweighted or weighted body
- Side or Bottom Pockets
- Finishing Kit available (Foil Tape, #44 Drill bit, 7 grams of Tungsten Putty)
