3D Printed Pinewood Derby tools are the solution for budget minded builders wanting pro level results.  After being in the commercial PWD niche for nearly 8 years, I know there are certain steps that need to be done to have a winning design.  Why do 10 people have a positive result with a given kit, and there is always one that has the most horrible experience of their life?

From reaching out to those customers one of the common things I find is tooling or the lack there of.  When you have the right tools, you have the right build.  But not everyone can afford a Master Tool Pack for Pinewood Derby.  Some people are on a limited budget.  And these patented tools can creep into some builder’s budgets.  So some do without, some can only get one tool.  How do I help fix this problem?  The solution is 3D printing.

What is our Goal for 3D Printing?

With the help of Troy and my Son, we have designed and manufactured new exciting products for the Pinewood Derby Niche using our Derby Dust 3D Print Lab.  Simple tools, simple ideas brought to life, made here in the USA.  Merica!

What this means to you is that we can design, and 3D print tooling at a fraction of the costs.  Unique tooling that usually serves more than just one purpose.   We offer a COG stand that doubles as a wheel install jig.  We offer a axle pusher that is also a gap gauge and a wheel remover!  And because they are all 3D printed, one person can run two dozen printing machines nearly 24/7.  How many cnc machines can a single tech run at a time?  Skilled labor by far is the most expensive portion of a machined parts in the PWD niche.

We have purchased numerous machines to continually print 12 hour cycles without stopping.  We make all tools in house.  I do not have to farm out anything.  We have a continuous supply of printing material that never runs out.  If a machine malfunctions, it is not the end of a tool making process.   No jigs, no fixtures to change between tooling.  Simply start the program on another machine.

We have 3d printers of all sizes to meet our manufacturing needs.  We have 12 machines at the moment, will push it to 24 by mid summer.  It is the future of manufacturing.  Our main workhorses are the very popular and reliable QIDI line of machines.  We operate the x-one2, x-maker, x-plus, and x-max series.  We also will utilize The Original Prusa I3 MK3S for our jobs that need the best and most accurate finishes.  Resin Printing will be some time in the summer as I have to build a vent hood system to pipe out the organics and not have the vapors destroy anything in the shop.

    Convertible Model.  Use the key for BSA slots for perfect axle alignment.  Omit the key if you are using a block without slots.  Slightly over sized because we know there are rarely any blocks perfectly 1.75" in width.  Make sure to register the same side against the Guide when not using key for drilling.   Use pin vise for years of use.  Can be used with drill with ease.   $19.95 compare to $150.

    With the power of 3d printing we mated the two popular pinewood derby tools and came up with the perfect tool to pre-drill axle slots for axles.  I promise you will 100% accurately correctly drill you axle slot every single time, perfectly.  We are the first to market.  I am 100% certain others will copy, but just let you know we were the FIRST.  We are so confident that these are successful, we have purchased at total of 12x 3D printers to make inventory for 2021 Derby Season because we have to print of 20,000 hours of inventory! If your slot is not perpendicular to your body, its not going to fix that.  You will need to drill it without the key to fix this error. If your slot is not perpendicular to your body, its not going to fix that.  You will need a NON keyed drill guide such as the Derby Worx Pro Body Tool 2 to fix this error.    This simply drills your slots so that you do not bust your axle slots.  This is a solution that many desire.     • 3x 3/8″ holes from the rear which will are raised enough to go over axle slots and drilled axles
    • 3x 3/8″ holes from the side
    • 9x 3/8″ hole pattern for the bottom
    • 4x 1/4″ peep holes for those packs that require the visualization of BSA axle tips.  Also great way to glue your axles down after tuning.

  • Pinewood Center Gravity Mass Stand

    This balancing point (COG) will differ from car to car due to design, type of weight, type of wood, etc.  Knowing at what point your center of gravity will help you determine how aggressive your steer will need.  It will also need to be adjusted according to what type of track you are racing on.  Center of Gravity Mass matters if you want the best setup.  With a completely assembled car,  start balancing with the rear of the car hovering over the numbers.  Once you balance it, look down at the witness marks and locate where your rear axles are.  This will tell you your COG. Plus it doubles to help you install wheels without messing the other side.
  • Make your wheels perfectly round and concentric with the axle bore. This stops any wasted energy from wheels that are out of round due to the molding process. Out of round wheels ride as though the track itself is bumpy, robbing your car of speed. Get the hand shaver and the wheel measuring gauge.  Stay legal!
